In mathematics, the free group F S over a given set S consists of all words that can be built from members of S, considering two words different unless their equality follows from the group axioms (e.g. st = suu −1 t, but s ≠ t −1 for s,t,u ∈ S).The members of S are called generators of F S, and the number of generators is the rank of the free group. An arbitrary group G is called free.

This book treats "elementary" algebra in a rigorous way, I'm about pages into the first book and so far I've been satisfied with it. This isn't an easy book to read through though. I don't think any modern day algebra students, and by algebra i suppose I mean pre calculus students, would /5(4).

Elementary Algebra. This book is written in such a way as to maintain maximum flexibility and usability. This textbook will effectively enable traditional or nontraditional approaches to elementary algebra. Topics covered includes: Real Numbers and Their Operations, Linear Equations and Inequalities, Graphing Lines, Solving Linear Systems.

This book and volume 2 are incredible. I've never been able to find a rigorous modern book on elementary algebra until I started looking up to one hundred years back in time, says something about todays standards.

This book and the second volume have a profound table of contents, and most everything in the book is rigorously proved.5/5(2).
